Recently I had to do an unprepared English speech at school. I don’t do public speaking and so having to do this unprepared speech really put me out of my comfort zone. Suprisingly it was exhilirating and the feeling I got afterwards was one of great satisfaction. The only way to describe it is using the word numinous.

numinous (adj.)- describing an experience that makes you fearful yet fascinated, awed yet attracted- the powerful, personal feeling of being overwhelmed and inspired.

It is so satisfying to be able to look back and say: ” Wow! I honestly don’t know how I did that but I did.” It’s like what Albert Einstein once said:

“A ship at harbor is safe, but that’s not what ships are made of” -Albert Einstein

As you go out into the week I encourage you to do one thing that takes you out of your comfort zone. It could be as simple as saying yes to something that you would usually say no to. Whatever it is take the risk because trust me it will be worth it. You might not necessarily win but you’ll definitely learn something new.

What are you doing to get out of your comfort zone?
