So for as long as I can remember I’ve always wanted a retro kitchen. With all the bells and whistles. I know it’s a bit early to start planning but when I discovered Big Chill, I just couldn’t help myself. Big Chill is known for making colorful retro-inspired stoves and fridges, as well as other stylish kitchen appliances. The kitchen is the center of the home and when I eventually get there I want mine to be suited for me. It has to be a peaceful place filled with tons of good memories. So this is the idea I have for my future kitchen. It has to have:

  • A retro fridge and stove.
  • White wooden floors
  • A marble counter
  • White exposed brick wall
  • A chalkboard wall
  • A wooden door and big glass windows
  • Quite a few wall plants in the kitchen
  • Hanging lightbulbs

Today I went to a farm, but not the traditional farm with animals. It’s almost like a craft market but with actual stores and there’s even a cafe. It probably used to be a  farm before they turned into a craft market, it feels very rustic and sort of retro. I’d say today was a day well spent.

Even though there’s seven days till Christmas and fourteen days till the new year. There’s still time to go out and about. So here’s a list of places you can see and things you can do in Jo’burg. Not only are they really fun but they’re all under R200.

Gold Reef City



Cost: R180 per person |R130 for people under 1.3m |R120 for pensioners(above 60) |R140 for students( need to have your student card)

This is probably one of the most popular places to visit in Jo’burg, no matter how many times you go there it never gets old.



Cost: Range from R100 –R250

This is for anyone who is feeling adventurous, it’s basically an outdoor obstacle and zipline course. I once went there for a friend’s party and I absolutely enjoyed it. You’re never too young or too old to go to acrobranch.

Orlando Towers


 Cost: R50 for a 25m climbing wall |R170 for paintballing

For another thrilling adventure you could go to Orlando Towers. Whether you prefer paintballing, bungee jumping (R550) or even a swing between the two towers (R450).

Lion Park


Cost: Prices range but a Self drive including lion cub interaction is R200 per adult.

This is your opportunity to get up close with the kings of the jungle, although this is a bit more pricey it’s definitely worthwhile. If you come at the right time you could walk with the lions (R600) and maybe even feed the cubs, giraffes or ostriches (R30 per bag).

Croc City Crocodile& Reptile Farm



Cost: R70 per adult| R60 for pensioners| R50 for kids (under the age of 12)

At Croc city you get to see a whole bunch of crocodile and reptiles, even black mambas. You also get the opportunity to hold a baby crocodile which I think is pretty exciting. They also recently opened a new zip line, where you can zip line over the crocodiles. I don’t really like reptiles that much, especially snakes but Croc city is pretty cool.

Honeydew Mazes


Cost: R120 per adult| R80 per kid

For a simple, relaxed day honeydew maze is the place to go. It’s actually super kid friendly so they’re lots of activities to keep the keep busy.

Cradle of Humankind


 Cost:Adults R165| Children (R4-14) R97| Children (under 4) free| Pensioners R85| Students R100

This is a world heritage site and a very beautiful place to go. Jam packed with tons of artifacts and really cool history it’s a place for the whole family to go.

SAB World of Beer



 Cost: R65 per adult| R55 for pensioners and students| R15 for kids (up to 17)

The World of Beer is really fascinating. It takes you through the process of beer making, it’s history and there’s free beer. At the end of the tour there’ s also a tap room with complimentary beer.

The Big Red Bus


 Cost: R80 for kids (5-15)| R150 per adult| Children under five go for free

I always see this tour bus, it’s a bright red double decker bus that takes you on a tour of Jo’burg. I honestly don’t know the name for it but I just call it the big red bus. It’s on a hop-on op-off basis so that does give you a bit of freedom.

Sci-Bono Discovery Center


Cost: Adults (16+) R40| Pensioners and Students R25| Children (3-16) R25| Children (less than 3) free

This is a more educational trip but it’s very fascinating. Sci bono is opposite the world of beer.

There’s this coffee shop that opened recently and I decided to try it out. My first thought when I walked in was wow! The interior is very simple and clean but cozy at the same time. Their service was very good and all the people there were so sweet.





I tried their carrot cake. This tasted absolutely divine, It had some nuts and some sort of berry which is a little different to the carrot cake that I am used to. 20151202_152607


I also tried their pie, gravy and chips. This was absolutely mouthwatering. I don’t know what it was but the pie had a particular taste to it (probably the bacon). The gravy was very rich and the chips were cooked to perfection.


Overall I’d give it an eight out of ten. The only problem was that the wifi wasn’t working:( but I’ll give them a break since they’re fairly new.





When I think of Christmas the first thing I think of is a Christmas tree, then I think of cute candles, fairy lights and all the good food that I get to eat.

To me Christmas is a time of celebration. Celebrating Jesus’ birth 2 015 years ago. Not only that, it’s about celebrating the family you have and the fact that you have made it through the year. It’s about appreciating what you have been gifted with.My family has never been one to have a Christmas dinner, I mean Christmas is normally a very relaxed day, spent with them and that’s what it’s about.

Going into the festive season I always look forward to all the DIY’s that I can do. The room décor, DIY gifts and so on. I mean this helps me get pumped for Christmas. I love setting up the Christmas tree; decorating it with ornaments, putting the fairylights on. I love making cute outfits and coming up with cute recipes.

Hi there!  I’m a good friend of Zoë and she let me do a guest post.  Fans of Zoë, I have never done a blog post before, let alone a guest post, so I apologise in advance for my lack of “je ne sais quoi.” (I don’t know what) Initially, I wanted to write about the different types of art and the variety of methods there are.  However, as I was researching, I realized that there was way too much to cram about into one blog only.  So, look out for my next bestseller! I am not pretending to be a great art expert.  In fact, I am not that amazing an artist either.  I’m not the next Van Gogh or Picasso.  But I am the next me. And that’s all that art really is about, right? Expressing yourself. I take Art at school and Iart-therapy-career2 really enjoy it.  I think that it’s great that you can develop your skills and learn new techniques.  The only problem is, if your teacher doesn’t like it, you get poor marks.  You can also do really well in Art… if you take your teacher’s advice that you don’t really want to take.  A few suggestions here and there are wonderful, but sometimes no one understands that there’s a reason for every single minute detail in your masterpiece.  That’s why all great artists were “misunderstood”. Art is about expressing your thoughts and feelings – nobody else’s.  You’re not the next Michelangelo: you are the next you. So, what are you waiting for? Go make art! Create a masterpiece, not only for you, but for the world.

I’ve been going through a tough time in my life. My dad has been lecturing me about using this time as an opportunity to learn new things and improve. Every afternoon when I got back from school I would just watch TV and do non-productive things.

When I think about it it’s pretty pathetic, I was being lazy. One day I decided to watch the movie ‘Homeless to Harvard: The Liz Murray Story.’ It’s a pretty old movie but it motivated me. It inspired me to get up and get to work.


I mean you are the only person who can motivate yourself and get yourself going. There are people out there and who have been through worse stuff than you and yet they still live a somewhat normal life and go to work.

I know it’s difficult but if you keep on coming up with excuses you’ll never get anywhere in life and you’ll die without achieving what you were put on earth to do. It’s pretty harsh but it’s true. I don’t know about you but I don’t want to die without doing what I was put on earth to do. I look on the street and see people in wheelchairs begging for money at the robot. It saddens me because there are jobs out there for people with disabilities and they could be doing something productive with their lives, not to mention that they stand in the sun all day and damage their skin.

It’s a thing called laziness and self-pity and it’s pathetic. It sounds rude but it’s the truth. Wallowing in self-pity and being lazy is pathetic and won’t get you anywhere in life. So I challenge you to get up actually start living your life. If you still don’t feel motivated then here’s a little more motivation.

Starting a blog is the hardest thing to do and writing this was in no way easy. Life is about taking chances and learning from your mistakes and this was the perfect opportunity. Someone once said it only takes ten seconds of insane courage to do something amazing and this is the result of my ten insane seconds of courage.

All it takes is a spark of inspiration.

My Inspiration

I’m a YouTube addict and there are so many amazing DIY and beauty youtubers who inspired me with all their room décor, fitness journals, hauls and beauty series to start this blog. From the beginning I had a clear outline of what I wanted to do. This blog had to have something about DIY, fashion and everything about life.

All It takes is a spark

All it takes is a spark of inspiration to have an amazing outcome. I had to take it step by step. Starting with the spark of the idea of a blog, choosing the best blog hosting site for me and what the blog is going to be about. The idea behind the blog is to give people easy DIY instructions, life hacks and random tips and tricks.

So what now…

This is the start of a very long journey, one filled with many ups and downs but hopefully one that we will remember for life. This blog is something I started for fun and enjoyment I want it to be something that isn’t stressful or something that I don’t want.
